When I first set epic4 up, I discovered a problem with the SCSI system which seemed to be
related to APIC (the Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller). Therefore I have disabled
APIC in the kernel boot configuration in /boot/grub/grub.conf by adding the kernel
argument apic=off. Another kernel argument maps the CD-RW drive (/dev/hdb) to the IDE-
SCSI emulation modules, to allow CD writing functions to work. This argument is hdb=ide-
scsi.
