46 SVA Path User’s Guide

The Free PE field in the vgdisplay output shows that the

number of free physical extents in the volume group has

decreased:

You can continue to create logical volumes with the

lvcreate

command until the

Free PE field is 0, which indicates that the

volume group has been completely allocated to logical volumes.

Existing

Applications

Any physical device supported by SVA Path and in use prior to

SVA Path installation will, from the perspective of host

applications, be renamed during SVA Path installation.

Applications will need to be redirected to the new filenames, by

modifying the configuration of the individual application to reflect

the new device names.

SVA Path does not support the LVM feature of alternative links to

physical volumes (

pv-links). If you have an existing volume

group that was created with alternative links you must re-import it

using the SVA Path device names of the physical volumes as

explained below. SVA Path will provide the same level of

protection against the failure of a single path.

Volumes

Since physical devices are renamed during SVA Path installation,

if those physical devices are part of existing logical volumes, your

system will not be able to locate the physical devices after SVA

Path is installed. You will need to follow the steps listed below to
